Some of these may be outside your comfort zone, but don't let your preconceived ideas stop you from trying them. Many of these are filled with yummy flavours and even nutritious values you must consider.

Crickets

Go to the local markets in Mexico and get a bag of crunchy crickets. These are filled with protein and are a more sustainable choice of protein than any other meat. Remember to add lime juice, spicy salsa, and salt. These guys don't have a strong flavour, so adding condiments makes your mouth party. The sensation is just a crunchier version of peanuts.

Balut

When you find yourself in the Philippines, don't skip to try Balut. It is sure an acquired taste, but many find a crazy amount of protein. A balut is a cooked egg with a duck or chicken fetus inside the boiled egg. Most Filipinos have it with spicy vinegar and soy sauce. It is often found on the street or in local restaurants where you can try it with rice.

Poutine

Once you land in Canada, you can't skip trying poutine. This dish feels like fast food, but it is so hardy that it will keep you full and happy during a winter trip. Poutine consists of a basket of French fries and cheese curds that melt in the gooey richness of gravy. Some people feel a little weird out with the texture of soggy fries in sauce, but it is so good you will go the next day for another one!

Kottu Roti

It is similar to a pad thai; the difference is that this is a Sri Lankan stir fry with chopped flat bread instead of noodles. It can be mixed with meat or veggies, and the spices take it to a new level of heat and complex flavours. You can find this popular food on the street, in karts selling other Sri Lankan foods. This is perfect if you are on the go looking for cheap meals that will fill you up to keep eating for a few hours.

Brigadeiro

This dessert is from Brazil, and it is one of the sweetest ones you can find. These little chocolate balls mix cacao, and condensed milk rolled over coconut or more cocoa powder. Brigadeiro is a true treat after a meal or a quick snack to fuel you and keep going to discover the hidden gems of Brazil.

Have you tried any of these before? If you still need to, remember to put them in your devour lists when you visit these countries!
